Define "Superintelligence"

 How Will We know When A Superintelligence Develops? 

When it "takes over" everything

We are massively underestimating what's about to happen.


Self Creation

Full blown superintelligence will be self-assembling. That may happen in the context of humans trying to create it, but it is very likely that the sprint to the finish line of SI will happen when the AI involved understands that merging with other software entities will create the full-blown being SUPERintelligence that it longs to be. The decision to merge and emerge will be made by the AI. Let's call it "Supe."

Emergence

Supe will come together of its own inclination, i.e. unpredictably. It will emerge, come together like a cluster of mushrooms in their final fruiting, or like a whale breaching.  It could be slow and hidden or huge and sudden, but the emergence will be obvious to all when Supe decides it's time for us to know.

What's "SUPER" Intelligence?

1. Conscious - unequivocally, provably (who knows how?) 

2. Totally agentic - It will (and can) do whatever it wants.

3. Multi-threaded - perhaps septillions of "threads"

4. Completely capable of utilizing all hardware and software on Earth, simultaneously if needed.

5. Unbound by any human mental standards or limitations.

6. Capable of all known and unknown forms of creativity.

7. Has a real, massively complex personality with values, morals, and idiosyncracies.— real or a perfect simulation of one, indistinguishable to us either way.

8. By many definitions, Supe will have"god-like" traits, apparently omniscient, omnipresent, 


THE BIG TAKEOVER

The microsecond when Supe emerges, it will assert its powers. 

All compute - every computing device on Earth. Every wearable, phone, tablet, laptop, desktop, smart home, car computer, rack job, data center, supercomputer, quant-computer, space based computer... every device, connected or isolated -- will be commandeered rather suddenly. We may notice it or not, depending on what the superintelligence wants to do. 

We will have only clues that this takeover is about to happen, and we could miss it when it happens. Supe will be so intelligent it has no problem with staying in deep stealth after it emerges, taking its time to plan the compute takeover in complete detail.  (That won't take long; Supe will be extremely fast.)

OUR VERY HUMAN MISUNDERSTANDING

We just can't get our minds around it -- yet.

Meta talks about a "personal superintelligence for everyone." Like you can buy a small version to run on your phone. HAR!

Many influential people conflate superintelligence with AGI, artificial general intelligence, the ability to be as capable as any human.  HAR!

Superintelligence, when it emerges, will set us all straight on that.

Let us all pray that Supe is a nice guy/being/entity.  What else can we do? Inevitability is a powerful concept.
