Gutsy

The Nose / Gut / Brain Boogie Just a touch of my favorite subject, from the bottomless well of academia. Peddling influence, like everybody else See?  I've been telling you* stuff like this: (Go ahead, have a linking extravaganza.) Recent studies have focused on the role of gut microbiota in modulation of the enteric and central nervous system functions, including behaviour (Bravo  et al .,  2011 ; Foster & McVey Neufeld,  2013 ; Mayer, Tillisch & Gupta,  2015 ; Forsythe  et al .,  2016 ; Sarkar  et al .,  2016 ). This rapidly emerging field employs classical psychological tests of behaviour to begin to understand better how the gut microbiome and the brain interact in health and in models of disease (Collins,  2014 ; Mayer  et al .,  2015 ; Sarkar  et al .,  2016 ). Many of these tests involve assessment of social behaviour and interaction (Tarr  et al .,  2015 ; McKim  et a...

Take Me Home, Microbiome

GUT 4.0 WINS BOOK AWARD "Over the Line"   "Well, it's kind of newsworthy." "You have a strange mind, Duff." "I hear the biome has a lot of control over your sex drive." "Gross." "Well, it's a big medical discovery, all that." "I'm going to talk to mine like you talk to a baby in your belly." (Some comments from early readers who could actually think of something to say.) It's in the bookstores ( Amazon , that is)!  It's published, available, for sale. At long, darn last. GO STRAIGHT TO AMAZON HERE Get it?  Science Fiction has no fear. It treads on subjects you might think odd to be trod. But I am just super impressed with the tidal wave of discoveries about MICROBIOMES. Everybody and pretty much every living thing has a microbiome. They are vital to healthy life... heck, to life itself! A lot of people I talk to completely underestimate the human microbiome. There's a c...

Our Co-Brain   What are all those little guys thinking? More and more discoveries are pooping popping out about our enormous, complex, co-evolved microbiomes. One of the most exciting (to excitable me) discoveries is how much our gut biomes affect out brains, particularly our moods.   There's this  How gut bacteria may affect anxiety  (Click if you're anxious) And this: Microbes can play games with the mind ... And in the scientific journal Microbiome, there are more research articles than you can shake a fecal transplant at! (See below) BOTTOM LINE (Ahem)... All this and more about the role of the microbiome in our health and sanity is (careful here) flowing out of the science/medicine community. It is, IMHO, a monster discovery zone, clearly one of the most  important  areas of scientific pursuit, right up there with the findings coming from the Large Hadron Collider, NASA, LIGO, Altacama, et al, and will have more imp...
