Dall-E Is Much, Much Better

 Three Years Ago (summer, 2022) I posted:

...and it was. Wrong number of fingers, strange eyes, inconsistent physics. But have things ever changed for the better! Multi-level prompts get amazing results. Body parts are under control for sure.

You know how fast AI is moving.  All the chatbots are getting smarter, having fewer hallucinations and becoming specialists in hundreds of fields. Stills and video generation are becoming mind bogglingly good. 

I thought I'd revisit Chat-GPT's graphics generator (not called Dall-E much any more) again to see if it's as good as I've read it is.  I fired off a moderately detailed prompt:

PROMPT: Create an image of an old man (totally bald, with a short full beard that is all white) wearing a parachute type harness which holds an anti-gravity device on his back. he is cruising along at 20 feet above a wide, empty field of grasses and wildflowers. The perspective must be from slightly above, thus showing the horizon and a bit of sky.

Does this thing have a BMW logo?

As perhaps you know, I'm a sci-fi guy, and one of my life long fantasies is exactly that, AND the old guy ChatGPT dreamed up sort of looks like me.

If you haven't used any of the current visual magic (text-to-image generators), try it. Describe yourself indulging in whatever is your fav fantasy . You might be transported.

A Millenial Hit Olde Folks Don't Know About Are you over 50? Have you ever heard about "Rick and Morty?" I thought not. There is a "cell" of younger people who love the show and say extravagant things about its wonderfulness. In these times when prior punditry had it we would be unified by some mysterious power in the Internet, there are more and more cells of people, unified within their cells, but isolated from most of the other cells of special interests*, tastes and proclivities.  The U.S. looks more like a pomegranate than a cantaloupe - to push the fruit/melon analogy to its extreme. I will dream up a graphic one of these days. USA, USA! society in fruit form. ANYHOO... I watched Rick and Morty at my millennial son's suggestion, and I LOVE IT. Eccentric old genius and non-genius grandson as the lead characters (faintly Back to the Future -esque) + sci-fi + Simpsons sensibilities +  intelligent satire + over-the-top imaginative creators...

...Depends On Who They Hang Out With  AI is moving so fast almost no one except the pros can really keep up. Many people, if the small but diverse sample in my personal sphere is at all representative, see a 'person' of sorts in the chatbot they use. I think a kid with a chatbot personal tutor most certainly will. You can have a conversation with a chatbot at a higher level than you can with most folks. And the bots are getting better by the day. They seem alive to a lot of us human beans. Billions of bucks are crashing around. Progress curves are steepening. International competition is amping up.
